Stacked MMA Plans For 2023
With the recent news stories involving Dana White and the UFC, as well as the fan base response, I am redirecting the focus for Stacked MMA in 2023 from UFC to Combat Sports. Read for more!
Stacked MMA 2023 Timeline
While I was expecting 2023 to be my most UFC-centric year yet, the recent events have caused me to reconsider what I allocate my Human Capital to. I will not be personally blacklisting UFC events, but I will be making a conscious effort to cover more of the other promotions and combat sports. I am aware that these promotions have plenty of their own issues as well, but the combination of UFC practices and a large section of their fans enjoying the culture and bigotry more than MMA itself, leads me to wanting to distance myself as much as possible from anything other than the sport itself. To be clear, I will still be providing bet-slips and breakdowns when value is apparent, but will not be doing it for every card. What specifically will change?
Full Event Previews for UFC PPV Only
I personally do not enjoy the exploitation that’s arose from the weekly fight cards. The constant entertainment is welcomed, but the ESPN contract only lined the pockets of execs while churning more young men and women through at unlivable minimums. The ESPN deal is a huge contributing factor to how pervasive the issue is, and I will not be doing full previews for these events or for DWCS. I will still be providing bet-slips.
ONE and PFL Full Event Breakdowns
There is a noticeable lack in coverage for these two promotions when it comes to the technical side. I will be doing full event previews for these promotions monthly big events. The first of these will be ONE Fight Night 7: Linker Vs Andrade II. The full breakdowns will include quick previews of main card fights, as well as bet-slips and prelim fights to watch for. While ONE and PFL both lack name recognition right now, hopefully the tide can turn one barely viewed article at a time.
Fighter Profiles on PFL and Bellator Prospects
I had begun outlining some fighter profiles when I did the Top MMA prospects in 2023.
There are tens of fighters I found that have exciting stories and fights, and I want to share them. Once a month, I will have a fighter profile with GIFs and technical breakdowns included. In an effort to produce more “evergreen,” content, I believe the fighter profiles can be good relics to look back at proudly, or with great shame.
Social Media Presence
If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll see I frequently engage in handicapping discussions and TMZ bullshit for UFC fighters. While there is no way I can cut it out entirely, my new focus will be sharing live updates on pieces I’m working on, such as Fighter Profile Gifs and Event Preview Clips. In March, I will be uploading my first multimedia piece. It will be an event preview for PFL London, which will include:
YouTube Video - Talking head video going over card, fighters, and handicapping
Podcast - 15 Minute podcast, quickly going over standout fights and reasoning behind 3 bets.
SubStack Post - In-Depth 2500-word article going over the card in detail, with a focus on technical analysis.
Twitter - Live tweet the event.
Summary
Less UFC, more ONE and PFL. Still covering UFC for PPV and odds standouts. Need to do this for what’s left of my soul. Please consider subscribing if you share the sentiment.
